The best offense is the best defense. Or so they say. But in the case of the Davao City police force, defense is definitely a valuable, if not critical element in their line of work, particularly to its female members who are arguably physically weaker than their male counterparts. And so, to further enhance the defensive faculty of our men in uniform, or women in this case, a program has been devised to provide the best possible defense our policewomen can acquire. With the immense support of the Office of Councilor Mabel Sunga Acosta, the “Defensive Shooting Training for Davao City Police Office Lady Cops” has been organized by the Davao City Police Office. The training will be participated by 23 pre-selected female police officers assigned to various divisions of DCPO.

A one-day seminar/lecture on defensive shooting for the participants was convene last July 14, 2008 at the Conference Room in Camp Capt. Domingo Leonor in San Pedro St, Davao City. The hands-on training on defensive shooting held at SATU firing range inside Camp Leonor. Both the seminar and the actual training was conducted by the members of the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) and the Davao City SWAT team. Finally, the graduation of the Defensive Shooting Training for the DCPO Lady Cops was successfully held last September 3, 2008 at Grand Menseng Hotel, with our very own Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as the special guest.

Other sponsors of the event were the following: Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, Twin Pines, Inc., owned by Mr. Angie Topacio, Practical Shooters Supply, owned by Ms. Grace Tan, International Defensive Pistol Association Mindanao Safety Officers Club headed by Mr. Rey Tagle, Mindanao Defensive Shooters Association (MDSA) headed by Dr. Hilario Diaz and Dr. Roy Ferrer, and Mabel at Your Service.
